5 kV isolation for industrial and power-supply barriers
The FOD2741B is a single-channel optoisolator from onsemi with a 5000Vrms isolation rating, intended for galvanic isolation in power supplies, motor drives, and industrial controls. The DC input drives a phototransistor output in an 8-DIP through-hole package (0.300" lead spacing). The 5000Vrms isolation voltage sets the minimum creepage and clearance on the PCB for safety barrier design in mains-isolated circuits. The through-hole DIP package makes it a drop-in for legacy layouts or prototypes where reflow is not available.
CTR spread and LED drive margin
Current transfer ratio is specified at 100% minimum and 200% maximum, both measured at If = 10 mA. That 2:1 spread means the designer must size the LED series resistor so the output transistor saturates across the full CTR range, including the drop at cold temperature and over the device lifetime. The 400 mV Vce(sat) maximum at the output side confirms the transistor can pull down a logic input or relay coil without extra buffering. The 1.5 V maximum forward voltage on the LED side keeps the input power dissipation low.
