Isolation barrier and what 2500Vrms means for your circuit
Rated for 2500Vrms isolation — this is a basic isolation level, not reinforced. It is sufficient for functional isolation in circuits referenced to a SELV (Safety Extra-Low Voltage) supply or for signal isolation where the working voltage stays below 250V peak. Do not use this part where reinforced isolation to mains (typically 5000Vrms or higher) is required by IEC 60950 or IEC 62368. The single-channel DC-input transistor-output topology means the LED is driven from a DC source and the output is a phototransistor with an open collector — no logic-level output buffer, no AC input rectification. The output pulls low when the LED is on; the off-state output floats unless pulled up externally.
CTR range and drive current budget
At 10mA LED drive, the output transistor can sink between 10mA and 20mA — enough to drive a CMOS logic input or a low-power relay directly. The 50mA absolute maximum output current means the output is not a power driver; use it for signal-level switching. Maximum Vce saturation is 400mV — at 10mA collector current the output drops under half a volt, leaving good noise margin when interfacing to 3.3V or 5V logic families.
