Product details

Half-bridge gate driver for IGBT and MOSFET stages

The onsemi FAN73912AMX is a high-current, half-bridge gate driver designed to drive IGBT and N-channel MOSFET power stages. It delivers 2 A source and 3 A sink peak output current, enough to charge and discharge the gate capacitance of large die in motor-drive and inverter stages without excessive switching loss. The bootstrap supply supports a high-side voltage up to 1200 V, so the driver can float the upper gate above the DC bus in a 3-phase inverter or half-bridge leg. The supply range of 12 V to 20 V covers the typical gate-drive bias for IGBTs and standard MOSFETs.

Switching speed and logic interface

Typical rise and fall times are 25 ns and 15 ns respectively, which keeps cross-conduction dead-time short when the complementary output transitions. The non-inverting input and synchronous channel type simplify the control scheme: one PWM signal drives both the high-side and low-side outputs in complementary fashion, with the internal shoot-through protection managing the dead time.

Housed in a 16-SOIC wide-body package (7.50 mm width), the FAN73912AMX provides adequate creepage distance between the high-voltage floating side and the low-voltage logic side — important for 600 V to 1200 V bus applications.
