Isolation barrier and switching performance
The CNY17F3VM provides 4170Vrms galvanic isolation between input and output — enough for reinforced insulation in mains-referenced circuits like motor drives, PLC digital inputs, and SMPS feedback loops. The single transistor output switches up to 50mA at 70V, with a typical turn-on time of 2µs and turn-off of 3µs, which keeps up with 100kHz PWM signals without pulse stretching.
CTR range and drive margin
Current transfer ratio is specified from 100% to 200% at If=10mA — that means at 10mA LED current the phototransistor can sink at least 10mA and up to 20mA at the output. This 2:1 min-to-max spread is typical for the CNY17 series; the '3' bin (100-200%) sits between the '2' bin (63-125%) and the '4' bin (160-320%). For driving a 5V CMOS input with a 10kΩ pull-up, the 100% min CTR guarantees the output pulls below 0.8V at 10mA LED drive.
