Isolation voltage and signal transfer for galvanic separation
The onsemi CNY17F1SM is a single-channel optoisolator with a transistor output, providing 4170 Vrms of galvanic isolation between the DC input and the output side. This isolation rating is suitable for breaking ground loops and protecting low-voltage control circuits from high-voltage transients in industrial and power-supply applications. The current transfer ratio (CTR) is specified between 40% and 80% at a forward current of 10 mA, giving the designer a known gain window for the optocoupler. A 70 V output maximum and 50 mA continuous output current allow direct driving of logic inputs or low-power loads without an external buffer.
Switching speed and temperature range for control loops
Typical turn-on and turn-off times are 2 µs and 3 µs respectively, with rise and fall times of 4 µs and 3.5 µs (max). These switching speeds support moderate-frequency signals such as PLC digital inputs, relay drivers, and feedback in switched-mode power supplies where isolation is required.
