Isolation and signal-transfer parametrics
The CNY174S: Rated for 5300Vrms isolation, this optoisolator provides a reinforced safety barrier between the input and output circuits — suitable for applications requiring galvanic isolation in industrial controls, power supplies, or medical equipment where the primary-to-secondary separation must withstand high potential. Current transfer ratio (CTR) is specified at 160% minimum and 320% maximum at a forward current of 10mA, ensuring consistent signal coupling across the isolation gap over the -55°C to 100°C operating range. The output transistor can handle up to 70V collector-emitter and 50mA continuous current, with a typical Vce saturation of 300mV — enough to drive logic inputs or small relays directly. Switching speed is moderate: typical turn-on/turn-off times are 2µs and 3µs respectively, with rise/fall times of 1µs and 2µs — fine for 10-100 kHz signal isolation but not for high-speed data links.
Housed in a 6-SMD Gull Wing package (supplier device package 6-SMD), the part is designed for surface-mount assembly. The Gull Wing leads are hand-solderable with a fine-tip iron if a rework station is unavailable — no hot-air required for a single swap in the field. Supplied in tube packaging, which is common for through-hole or SMD parts in low-to-medium volume production. The tube protects leads during handling and is easy to feed into a pick-and-place feeder.
