The CNY171300W is listed as Obsolete by onsemi.
Isolation and signal transfer — what the ratings mean
Rated for 5300Vrms isolation, this optoisolator provides galvanic separation between a DC input and a phototransistor output — sufficient for reinforced insulation in mains-connected industrial control and power supply feedback loops. Current transfer ratio (CTR) is specified at 40% minimum to 80% maximum, tested at If=10mA. This spread means the output transistor's drive capability varies by a factor of two across the lot — a design that works at the min CTR guarantees margin at the max, but a circuit tuned for a narrow CTR band may need binning or a tighter-grade sibling. Output ratings: 70V Vce(max) and 50mA continuous collector current. The 300mV Vce(sat) at rated current sets the on-state voltage drop across the output transistor — low enough to keep dissipation under 15mW at 50mA, but the 6-DIP package's thermal impedance limits total power to what the copper traces can sink.
Switching speed and timing margin
Typical rise/fall times of 1µs and 2µs, with turn-on/turn-off times of 2µs and 3µs respectively. This places the usable switching frequency below about 100 kHz — adequate for 50/60 Hz line-sync feedback, relay drivers, and slow digital isolators, but not for high-speed data or gate-drive applications.
Housed in a 6-DIP (0.400", 10.16mm) through-hole package with a supplier device package designation of 6-DIP. The 0.100-inch pin pitch and 0.400-inch row spacing are standard for DIP sockets or direct solder into plated through-holes on a single- or double-sided PCB.
Temperature range and environment
Rated for -55°C to +100°C operating temperature — an industrial/military temperature grade that covers outdoor telecom cabinets, engine compartments, and cold-chain logistics equipment without derating.
