10 Mbps digital isolation with 5000 Vrms reinforced barrier
The onsemi 6N137SDM is a single-channel optocoupler rated for 10 Mbps data throughput and 5000 Vrms isolation voltage. The open collector output with 75 ns propagation delay (max) makes it suitable for isolating high-speed digital interfaces such as CAN, RS-485, and MCU-to-peripheral links where the timing budget must accommodate the optocoupler delay plus the receiver threshold. The 10 kV/µs common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) is the critical parameter for motor-drive and inverter applications — fast IGBT switching edges can couple several kV/µs across the isolation barrier, and a lower CMTI optocoupler would latch or produce false edges. The 6N137SDM's CMTI rating ensures the output remains stable under those transient conditions.
Industrial temperature range and surface-mount assembly
Operating temperature spans -40°C to 100°C, covering the ambient range inside most factory-floor enclosures and outdoor telecom cabinets without forced cooling. The 8-SMD Gull Wing package (8-SMD, Gull Wing) is the standard footprint for this optocoupler family and supports reflow soldering — the gull-wing leads provide visual solder-joint inspection access. The input side requires a forward voltage of 1.45 V (typical) at up to 50 mA forward current; the output side sinks up to 50 mA per channel. The 30 ns rise and 10 ns fall times (typical) contribute to the overall propagation delay budget.
