Isolation rating and signal path
The 4N37FM provides 7500Vpk isolation between input and output — this is the peak repetitive voltage the optocoupler withstands across the isolation barrier, making it suitable for applications where galvanic isolation must survive transient overvoltages in industrial or medical equipment. With a minimum current transfer ratio of 100% at 10 mA forward current, the output transistor saturates reliably when the LED is driven at that level, ensuring the downstream logic or PLC input sees a clean low state without marginal switching. Typical turn-on and turn-off times of 2 µs each mean the part handles data rates up to roughly 250 kbps — adequate for status feedback, relay replacement, or isolated serial interfaces running at moderate baud rates.
Housed in a 6-SMD gull wing package, the 4N37FM sits flat on the PCB with the leads forming a surface-mount footprint — the gull-wing form allows visual inspection of solder joints and simplifies rework compared to J-bend or leadless packages. The operating temperature range of -55°C to 100°C covers industrial and extended-commercial environments; the lower end accommodates cold-start conditions in outdoor or unheated enclosures.
