The 4N26VM provides 4170 Vrms galvanic isolation between a DC input LED and a phototransistor output with base access — enough to separate a low-voltage control side from a 30 V output rail in industrial logic-level interfaces, PLC input modules, or power-supply feedback loops where transient immunity matters. Minimum current transfer ratio of 20% at 10 mA forward current means the output transistor sinks at least 2 mA into a 5 V pull-up — enough to drive a TTL or CMOS gate input without an extra buffer stage, provided the load resistor is sized for the 30 V output ceiling. Typical turn-on and turn-off times are both 2 µs, so the part handles 250 kbit/s data rates comfortably — marginal for 1 Mbit/s but fine for status feedback, relay drivers, or slow serial links where edge jitter is not critical.
