Isolation and signal transfer — what the ratings mean
Rated for 5300Vrms isolation between input and output — this is the one-minute hipot test voltage per UL 1577. Minimum current transfer ratio (CTR) is 20% at 10 mA forward current. At 10 mA in, the output transistor sinks at least 2 mA — enough to drive a TTL or CMOS logic input directly, but marginal for a relay coil without a buffer stage. The 1.18 V typical forward drop is standard for an IR LED at that drive level. Switching is rated at 2 µs turn-on and 2 µs turn-off typical — about 250 kHz maximum data rate in practice, limited by the phototransistor's base storage time. For 10 kHz PWM or 115.2 kbps serial isolation, this is clean; for 1 Mbps or faster, a logic-output optocoupler is the better fit. Output Vce saturation is 500 mV max at the rated collector current — the voltage drop across the output when fully on. At 5 V logic supply, the output high level sits above 4.5 V after the drop, which is within the VIH threshold of 5 V CMOS but tight for 3.3 V logic without a pull-up to the higher rail.
Temperature grade and package fit
Rated for -55°C to 100°C operating ambient — the full industrial temperature band plus military cold-end. The 2.54 mm pin pitch is breadboard- and perfboard-friendly, and the package is socket-compatible with standard 6-pin DIP sockets. Tube packaging means the parts ship aligned for machine insertion or manual kitting.
