1N6377 – Mosorb™ Zener TVS for surge clamping
The 1N6377 is a 1.5 kW peak pulse power Zener TVS from onsemi's Mosorb™ series, designed to clamp transients on a 15 V rail to a maximum of 25 V at the rated current. The 17.6 V minimum breakdown voltage ensures the device stays off during normal operation and only conducts when the surge exceeds the standoff threshold. Housed in a DO-201AD axial-lead package, it is a through-hole part intended for general-purpose surge protection on power buses, telecom lines, or industrial control inputs where a single unidirectional channel is sufficient.
The operating temperature range of -65°C to 175°C junction suits high-reliability or harsh-environment applications, but the obsolete status means any new design-in should target a currently-active TVS with similar clamping voltage and package footprint.
With a 15 V reverse standoff and 25 V maximum clamping at Ipp, the 1N6377 protects a 12 V or 15 V rail from surges up to 1.5 kW peak pulse. The 17.6 V breakdown minimum gives a 2.6 V guard band above the standoff – enough to ignore normal ripple but clamp fast when a transient hits. The 1.5 kW peak pulse rating is a 10/1000 µs waveform rating; real-world clamping depends on surge duration and duty cycle. For continuous overvoltage events, a different protection strategy is needed – this is a transient suppressor, not a regulator.
