Breakdown and clamping – what the ratings mean
Minimum breakdown voltage is 14.1V – the device begins conducting at this level, so the protected rail must stay below that in normal operation. The 12V reverse standoff gives a 2.1V margin before the TVS starts to leak; that margin shrinks with temperature, so a 12V rail with tight tolerance needs a higher standoff part. If the downstream components have a 20V absolute maximum, this TVS may not protect them; a lower-clamp part is needed.
