This is the energy it can absorb in a single surge — sizing it for a given rail means matching the clamping voltage to the load's maximum rating, not just the standoff. Three voltage thresholds define the protection window: a reverse standoff of 77.8V (the DC working voltage it blocks), a minimum breakdown of 86.5V (where avalanche conduction starts), and a maximum clamping of 125V at the rated peak pulse current Ipp. The gap between standoff and clamping is the headroom the load must survive.
onsemi lists the 1N6294ARL4 as Obsolete. New production has stopped; remaining inventory is what is available in the channel. The DO-201AD axial package and through-hole mounting are fixed — no drop-in SMT alternative exists in the same Mosorb™ series.
The DO-201AD axial package is through-hole; the leads are tin-plated copper and solder easily into plated through-holes on a standard PCB or terminal block.
