1500W surge clamp for 53V rails — what it does
The 1N6290ARL4 is a unidirectional Zener TVS from onsemi's Mosorb™ series, rated for 1500W (1.5kW) peak pulse power at 10/1000µs waveform. It clamps transients on a 53V nominal rail — the reverse standoff is 53V, breakdown starts at 58.9V minimum, and clamping is held to 85V at the peak pulse current. The DO-201AD axial package and -65°C to 175°C junction temperature range suit it for industrial power supplies, motor drives, and battery chargers where high-energy surges hit the DC bus.
onsemi lists the 1N6290ARL4 as Obsolete. The part is not recommended for new designs. For existing BOM lines, procurement must go through independent or spot-market distribution. Package and mounting — DO-201AD axial leaded
Through-hole DO-201AD axial package. The lead spacing and body diameter are standard for 1.5kW TVS diodes. The copper lead frame carries the surge current; the junction temperature range is -65°C to 175°C, so the part can sit on a hot PCB near a heatsink or in a sealed enclosure. No power line protection — it is a unidirectional Zener clamp, not a bidirectional or steering TVS.
