What this Zener TVS does in the circuit
The 1N6286ARL4G is a unidirectional Zener TVS diode from the onsemi Mosorb™ series, designed to clamp transients on a 36.8V nominal rail. It handles 1500W peak pulse power (1.5kW) in a DO-201AD axial package — the same footprint as the classic 1.5KE series, so it drops into existing board layouts without a pad revision. Breakdown occurs at 40.9V minimum, clamping at 59.3V at the rated peak pulse current. That 18.5V window between standoff and clamp gives enough margin to keep a 36V bus from seeing damaging overvoltage during a surge, but the clamping voltage is high enough that downstream 40V-rated parts still need their own derating check.
Sourcing an obsolete part — what to expect
onsemi lists the 1N6286ARL4G as Obsolete. Sourcing relies on independent inventory — we can search our network of franchised and non-franchised suppliers for remaining stock. The part ships in Tape & Reel (TR) format, which is typical for automated insertion of axial diodes. If your line uses bulk or cut-tape, the reel can be broken — just specify the quantity and preferred packaging in the RFQ.
Temperature range and mounting
Junction temperature range spans -65°C to 175°C (TJ) — wide enough for industrial and outdoor telecom enclosures where the ambient inside the cabinet can hit 85°C and the diode self-heats during a surge. The through-hole DO-201AD axial body conducts heat through the leads into the PCB copper; keep the lead length short to minimise thermal resistance. No power line protection — this part is intended for signal or low-power DC rail clamping, not AC mains. If your application requires line-side transient suppression, look at a metal-oxide varistor or a higher-energy TVS rated for AC coupling.
