40 MHz Cortex-M0+ — the right core for cost-sensitive control
The MKE02Z16VLD4: Program memory is 16 KB of Flash, backed by 2 KB of SRAM and 256 bytes of on-chip EEPROM — enough for a modest firmware image with a few calibration constants stored across power cycles. The 44-LQFP package (10x10 mm) exposes 37 I/O lines, so you get plenty of GPIO headroom for panel buttons, LED indicators, and encoder inputs alongside the serial peripherals.
Industrial temperature and 5 V-tolerant I/O
The LVD (low-voltage detect) and WDT peripherals add basic safety monitoring without an external supervisor IC.
Serial interfaces cover I2C, SPI, and UART/USART — the three most common buses for sensors, small displays, and serial EEPROMs. The PWM module is sized for motor-drive or dimming control, though the 16 KB Flash limits the complexity of the control algorithm you can fit alongside the commutation logic.
