40 MHz S08 core with integrated CAN and LIN
The NXP MC9S08DZ128CLH is an 8-bit microcontroller from the S08 family, built around a 40 MHz S08 core. The 64-LQFP package provides 53 general-purpose I/O lines. This part is designed for industrial and automotive body-control applications where a mix of control, sensor acquisition, and network connectivity is needed in a single 8-bit device.
Memory and peripheral mix for a standalone node
The 128 KB Flash is sized for moderate firmware stacks — bootloader, CANopen or LIN stack, and application code fit without external memory. The 2 KB EEPROM is useful for calibration constants, fault logs, or node configuration that must survive a power cycle; it avoids the need for an external serial EEPROM. The 8 KB RAM handles data buffers for CAN messages and ADC conversions. The 24 analog inputs on the 12-bit ADC cover multi-sensor panels — temperature, pressure, position — without an external mux.
The external oscillator input gives flexibility for a crystal or ceramic resonator; the internal clock source is not listed, so plan for an external clock or resonator in the BOM.
