Octal inverting buffer for bus-oriented logic
The Nexperia 74HC240PW,118 is an octal inverting buffer/line driver with 3-state outputs, packaged in a 20-TSSOP footprint. It accepts a supply range of 2V to 6V, making it usable in both 3.3V and 5V logic domains. Each of the two 4-bit elements provides inverting drive with 7.8 mA source and sink capability, enough to drive standard HC inputs or short PCB traces. The 3-state outputs let multiple buffers share a common bus line without contention — a typical use case in address/data bus isolation or memory-mapped I/O expansion.
The 2V to 6V supply range covers both 3.3V and 5V logic domains. At 5V the HC family's noise margins are generous; at 3.3V the output drive (7.8 mA) stays within the same rating.
