The NXP MKL02Z32VFK4R runs a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0+ core at 48 MHz, which is the standard speed tier for the Kinetis KL02 value line. That clock rate handles sensor polling, PWM updates, and serial communication in a single interrupt cycle — no need for DMA on simple I/O tasks. The 32 KB Flash and 4 KB RAM pair fits firmware for a brushless DC motor controller or a Modbus RTU slave node; the 4 KB RAM limits lookup tables, so keep coefficient arrays in Flash and page them in.
The 24-QFN (4x4 mm) exposed-pad package needs a thermal via array under the pad for the 1.71–3.6 V supply range; the exposed pad also provides a low-inductance ground return for the internal oscillator and ADC reference. The 22 I/O lines break out to I²C, SPI, and two UARTs — enough for a sensor hub with a local display.
