72 MHz Cortex-M4 with 256 KB Flash — the mid-range Kinetis workhorse
The MK20DX256VLK7 is a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 MCU clocked at 72 MHz with 256 KB Flash and 64 KB SRAM. It integrates DSP and FPU, dual CANbus, USB OTG, and a 29-channel 16-bit ADC. Supply range is 1.71 V to 3.6 V. Operating temperature is -40°C to 105°C.
Memory map and peripheral set — what fits in the BOM
The 256 KB Flash and 64 KB SRAM suit a FreeRTOS or bare-metal application with a moderate TCP/IP or CANopen stack. An additional 2 KB EEPROM stores calibration constants. Connectivity includes CANbus, USB OTG, SPI, I²C, UART/USART, and IrDA — covering the interfaces a typical industrial sensor hub or automotive gateway needs. The 52 general-purpose I/O pins in the 80-LQFP package leave enough headroom for a parallel LCD or external memory bus through the EBI/EMI interface.
