180 MHz Cortex-M4 with 360 KB SRAM — ROMless boot path
The NXP LPC54S005JBD100E is a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 single-core MCU clocked at 180 MHz, with 360 KB of on-chip SRAM and no internal program memory. It boots exclusively from external Flash via SPIFI, parallel EBI/EMI, or SD card — a deliberate architecture for designs that need flexible memory sizing or field-updatable firmware without on-chip Flash endurance limits. The 360 KB SRAM is enough to hold a real-time control loop, a USB buffer, and a small protocol stack simultaneously; the 64 GPIOs and 12-channel 12-bit ADC suit sensor-fusion or motor-control nodes.
Peripherals include brown-out detect, DMA, I²S, POR, PWM, and WDT. Connectivity covers EBI/EMI, I²C, MMC/SD/SDIO, SmartCard, SPI, SPIFI, UART/USART, and USB. The SPIFI interface lets you attach a serial NOR Flash with a 4-bit SPI bus for fast code execution; EBI/EMI supports parallel SRAM, NOR, or NAND for designs that need more than 360 KB of working memory. The USB port can act as host or device, which simplifies field-update and data-logging connections.
