100µH in a 1008 body — where this sits in the LQH2 family
The LQH2HPN101MGRL is a 100µH drum-core wirewound inductor in the LQH2 series from Murata, shielded and built on a ferrite core. It carries a 150mA continuous current rating and a 7.08Ω maximum DC resistance, which together define the DC bias limit and the self-heating at that current. The 1008 footprint (2.50mm × 2.00mm) with a 1.00mm seated height lets it fit into tight board stacks where height is the constraint — think battery-powered handhelds or multi-layer portable designs. The self-resonant frequency of 5MHz gives the usable bandwidth ceiling; above that the inductive impedance rolls off and the part behaves capacitively.
Current, saturation, and what limits your load
Rated at 150mA continuous, the part also specifies a saturation current of 210mA — that is the DC bias level where the inductance drops by a defined amount (typically 10-30% depending on the core material). For a DC-DC converter output filter, the peak inductor current under transient or startup conditions should stay below 210mA to avoid a sudden inductance drop that destabilises the loop. The 7.08Ω max DCR at 150mA produces about 160mW of copper loss — negligible for most boards, but in a tightly packed 1008 package the self-heating adds to the ambient. Shielding is built into the ferrite drum construction, which means the external magnetic field is contained — less cross-coupling to adjacent traces or other inductors in a filter bank. This matters when you stack multiple inductors side-by-side in a multi-phase converter or a filter array.
