3.3 µH shielded power inductor for automotive DC-DC stages
The Murata DFE322520FD-3R3M=P2 is a wirewound drum-core inductor from the DFE322520FD series, offering a nominal inductance of 3.3 µH at a 1 MHz test frequency. It is a shielded part, which contains the magnetic field to reduce EMI coupling into nearby traces or other passives — a requirement for dense power-stage layouts where loop area must stay tight. AEC-Q200 qualification means this component has passed the full automotive passive-component stress suite: thermal shock, vibration, mechanical shock, solderability, and moisture resistance. The OEM auditor will ask for the PPAP evidence pack; this grade certifies it.
Current handling and DC resistance — the thermal budget
Rated current is 2.3 A with a maximum DC resistance of 65 mOhm. At full rated current, the I²R loss is 344 mW — this heat must dissipate into the PCB copper plane, so the layout should use wide traces and a thermal via under one of the pads. Saturation current is 4.2 A, nearly double the rated current. The metal composite core provides a soft-saturation characteristic — inductance drops gradually rather than collapsing, which gives the downstream regulator headroom during transient load steps before the inductor saturates.
