Power rail inductor for automotive DC-DC converters
The Murata DFE322520FD-2R2M=P2 is a 2.2 µH shielded wirewound inductor from the DFE322520FD series, built for DC-DC converter output filters in automotive power trains. Its 2.9 A continuous current rating and 5 A saturation current give headroom for a 12 V-to-3.3 V buck converter delivering around 10 W, where the inductor ripple current stays below the saturation floor. The 46 mOhm max DCR sets the I²R conduction loss — at 2.9 A that is roughly 387 mW of self-heating, which the 125°C rated operating temperature absorbs without derating the current below the ambient ceiling of an engine-bay ECU.
AEC-Q200 qualification and deployment envelope
Rated AEC-Q200, this inductor passes the automotive stress tests: thermal shock, moisture resistance, mechanical shock, and vibration. The metal composite core (Material - Core: Metal) avoids the hard saturation characteristic of ferrite cores — inductance rolls off gradually as current approaches 5 A Isat, so the converter does not see an abrupt current spike that trips the overcurrent protection.
Board-fit and assembly note
The shielded construction (Shielded) contains the magnetic flux, so the inductor can sit next to a sensitive analog sensor front-end without coupling noise into the signal path. Supplied on Tape & Reel (TR) or Cut Tape (CT) — the reel format supports automated pick-and-place at 8 mm tape pitch, standard for 1210 components. Surface-mount assembly with a standard reflow profile; no special handling beyond the usual MSL precautions for a non-moisture-sensitive part.
