Package and rework reality for a 1008 shielded inductor

The DFE252012P-1R5M=P2: The iron powder core handles saturation current without the hard roll-off of ferrite, so the inductance holds flatter under DC bias up to the rated 3.5 A. Shielded construction means the field stays contained; you can place it next to a sensitive analog trace without coupling noise into the signal path. Rework-wise, this is a standard two-pad 1008 body with visible end terminations. The 1.20 mm height gives the hot-air nozzle clearance to hit both pads without cooking the core. Tin the pads, align the part by the bar-code dot or the chamfer on the body, and reflow at 260 °C peak per JEDEC MSL — the iron powder core doesn't crack like ferrite can under thermal shock. Where is pin 1? On a two-terminal inductor, polarity doesn't matter, but the orientation mark (usually a dot or line on the top face) helps the pick-and-place camera recognize the part.

DC resistance and current rating — what drives the selection

Rated 3.5 A continuous with a maximum DCR of 60 mOhm. The DC resistance is the thermal bottleneck: at 3.5 A, I²R loss is 0.735 W, and the part has to shed that heat through the pads into the board copper. For a 1.5 µH value, the 3.5 A rating is the saturation-limited current, not the heating-limited one — the iron powder core saturates softly, so the inductance drops gradually rather than collapsing.
