4.1 A rated, 4.8 A saturation — the headroom margin
The DFE21CCNR47MELL is a 470 nH shielded wirewound inductor from Murata's DFE21CCN_EL series, built on a metal composite core. The 4.1 A continuous current rating and 4.8 A saturation current give a 17% headroom above rated — the inductor stays within its linear inductance region up to the saturation limit, so a transient overload to 4.8 A does not cause a hard roll-off. The 29 mOhm maximum DCR keeps I²R losses under 0.5 W at full rated current, which the 0805 body and metal core dissipate without exceeding the 125°C operating limit.
0805 footprint, 0.80 mm seated height — board-fit constraints
The shielded construction contains the magnetic field, so adjacent traces or nearby sensitive circuitry see minimal coupling — useful when the inductor sits close to a DC-DC converter's input or output filter bank. Surface-mount tape-and-reel packaging supports standard pick-and-place assembly. The metal composite core handles higher saturation current than ferrite of the same volume, but the core material is harder — verify that the pick-and-place nozzle and placement force are compatible with the 0805 body.
Active production — no end-of-life watch needed
The metal core does not saturate as abruptly as ferrite at elevated temperature — the saturation current derating is flatter across the temperature band.
