2.2 µH shielded power inductor for DC-DC converters
The Murata DFE2016CKA-2R2M=P2 is a 2.2 µH wirewound shielded power inductor in the DFE18SBN series, built with a metal composite core and housed in an 0805 (2012 Metric) surface-mount package. Rated for 1.4 A continuous current with a matching 1.4 A saturation current (Isat), this inductor delivers its full current capability before the core saturates — the thermal and magnetic limits are aligned, so the part can be used up to its rated current without derating for saturation margin. The 200 mOhm max DC resistance sets the I²R conduction loss: at 1.4 A the resistive loss is 392 mW, which the 0805 body must dissipate without exceeding the 125°C temperature ceiling.
Metal composite core and shielded construction
The metal composite core provides a soft saturation characteristic — inductance rolls off gradually past Isat rather than collapsing abruptly, which gives the downstream regulator more margin to respond to load transients before the inductor current runs away. Shielded construction contains the magnetic flux within the package, reducing EMI coupling to adjacent traces and components — important in dense layouts where the inductor sits near sensitive analog or RF circuitry. The ±20% tolerance on inductance is typical for power-grade shielded inductors; the actual inductance at the operating current and temperature is what governs the ripple current and output voltage ripple in a buck converter, not the no-load value.
