150 nH, 5.2 A — the DC-DC output inductor choice
The Murata DFE201612PD-R15M=P2 is a 150 nH shielded wirewound inductor from the DFE201612P series, rated 5.2 A continuous with a saturation current of 6.2 A. The 18 mOhm max DCR keeps conduction losses manageable — at full rated current the I²R dissipation is just under 0.5 W, so the 0806 (2016 Metric) package can handle the thermal load without forced airflow in most automotive and industrial environments. The metal composite core delivers stable inductance under DC bias, unlike ferrite cores that saturate more abruptly. This matters for point-of-load converters where the inductor sees a DC bias near the peak current — the inductance holds up closer to the saturation limit, reducing output ripple growth at high load.
AEC-Q200 qualification and temperature grade
Rated AEC-Q200, this inductor passes the automotive-grade stress tests — thermal shock, vibration, moisture resistance, and mechanical shock per the standard. The OEM auditor will ask for PPAP documentation; the AEC-Q200 stamp is the first item on that checklist.
Package footprint and board-fit note
The shielded construction reduces radiated EMI — the closed magnetic path contains the flux, so the inductor can be placed near noise-sensitive traces or RF stages without coupling issues. The low profile (1.2 mm) fits under low-clearance shrouds or near tall components on the same PCB side. Tape-and-reel packaging (Cut Tape also available) supports standard pick-and-place assembly. The metal core material is not brittle like ferrite — no cracking risk from board flex or reflow thermal shock.
