Current rating and DCR — the DC bias trade-off
The DFE201612P-1R0M=P2: Rated 2.7 A continuous, this inductor saturates gradually — the metal composite core material gives a soft roll-off rather than a hard saturation knee, so the inductance holds reasonably flat up to the rated current. The 54 mOhm max DCR at 25°C sets the conduction loss; at 2.7 A the self-heating from I²R alone is roughly 0.4 W, and the 125°C rated operating temperature means the part can run hot in a compact supply without derating the current below 2.7 A as long as the ambient stays under 85°C. Shielded construction contains the magnetic flux within the core — adjacent traces and the ground plane see less fringing field, which matters when the inductor sits next to a sensitive feedback node or a WLCSP power IC on the same 0806 land pattern.
