1 µH metal-core power inductor for DC-DC rail filtering
The Murata DFE18SAN1R0MG0L is a 1 µH shielded power inductor in the DFE18SAN series, built on a metal-alloy core that handles 1.7 A continuous with a saturation floor of 2.1 A (Isat). The 128 mΩ maximum DCR keeps I²R losses low enough that the 0603 footprint (1.60 mm × 0.80 mm, 1.00 mm seated height) can dissipate the heat into the PCB copper without derating at the rated current.
Rated current vs saturation margin
The 1.7 A rated current is the thermal limit at 85°C ambient; the 2.1 A saturation current is the magnetic limit before inductance drops by 30% typical. The 400 mA headroom means the inductor holds its value through load transients up to the saturation boundary. Inductance is tested at 1 MHz, which is the standard reference frequency for this value range — the metal core maintains stable permeability well into the MHz switching region typical of POL converters.
0603 footprint and reflow profile
The shielded construction contains the magnetic field, so adjacent traces or other inductors can be placed within the standard keep-out without cross-coupling. Operating range is -40°C to +85°C, covering industrial ambient but not extended automotive under-hood temperatures. The ±20% tolerance is typical for power-grade inductors; the actual value at the switching frequency will sit within this band across temperature.
