Signal-line noise suppression in a 0402 footprint
The BLM15BD221SN1D is a single-line ferrite bead from Murata's EMIFIL® BLM15 series, delivering 220 Ohms impedance at 100 MHz to suppress conducted EMI on signal traces.
Impedance, current, and DCR — the fit decision
The 220 Ohm impedance at 100 MHz is the attenuation peak for common-mode noise in the 30-300 MHz band — typical for clock lines, data buses, and switching-regulator output rails. The 300 mA current rating sets the load ceiling: a 3.3 V rail drawing 250 mA stays within margin, but a 1.8 V rail at the same current pushes the DC bias closer to the ferrite's saturation knee, reducing effective impedance. Maximum DC resistance is 400 mOhm. At 300 mA, the self-heating from I²R loss is 36 mW — negligible in still air, but worth checking if the bead sits next to a hot regulator or in a confined enclosure with limited convection.
Temperature grade and storage
The 0402 body is not moisture-sensitive per standard JEDEC levels — store the reels in ambient conditions, no dry-bake required before reflow. Lifecycle status is Active per Murata's current product listing.
