The Microchip USB5742BT-I/2G is a two-port USB hub controller supporting both USB 2.0 and USB 3.2 protocols, making it suitable for high-speed peripheral expansion in embedded systems that need backward compatibility with legacy USB 2.0 devices. The SMBus and SPI interfaces share the same pins in a multiplexed configuration — the strapping resistor on the CFG_SEL pin at power-up selects which protocol the host uses for register access; leaving it floating defaults to SMBus.
