The Microchip SY58028UMG-TR is a single 4:1 multiplexer from the Precision Edge® high-speed signal-routing family. It selects one of four input channels to a single output, a common task in data switching, clock distribution, and serial-interface muxing. The part runs on a single supply rail, accepting either 2.375V–2.625V or 3V–3.6V, which lets it interface directly with LVDS, CML, or LVPECL logic levels without extra level shifters.
The dual supply range is the headline spec that drives the BOM decision. At 2.5V nominal (2.375V–2.625V) the part mates cleanly with 2.5V CML or LVDS outputs; at 3.3V nominal (3V–3.6V) it works with standard 3.3V LVPECL families. That means one line item can serve multiple board variants without a respin—handy when the same mux is used in a 2.5V FPGA interface on one project and a 3.3V clock fanout on another. The single-supply architecture also eliminates a negative rail, saving a regulator and a few capacitors per board.
Package and footprint—what the rework bench sees
The exposed paddle must be soldered to the PCB ground plane for both thermal and electrical performance—a lifted paddle or insufficient via stitching will show up as intermittent mux glitches under temperature cycling.
