The SR10LG-G uses a shunt topology, meaning the internal switch shunts the output to ground during the off-cycle, regulating the output by dissipating excess energy rather than storing it in a transformer — this simplifies the magnetics but limits efficiency compared to a flyback design. Switching frequency is fixed to the line frequency (50 Hz to 60 Hz), so the part synchronises directly with the AC mains zero-crossing — no external oscillator or timing capacitor is needed, and the switching losses are low because the device toggles only 100 or 120 times per second. Current-limiting fault protection is built in — if the output current exceeds the threshold, the internal switch latches off or cycles, protecting the load and the IC itself without an external sense resistor.
