TVS diode for 9V rail protection
The SMCJ9.0E3/TR13 is a unidirectional Zener TVS diode from Microchip, rated for 1500W peak pulse power (10/1000µs waveform). It clamps a 9V nominal rail at 14.4V maximum when hit with a 104.2A surge, making it a direct fit for protecting 9V power inputs, I/O lines, or low-voltage DC buses in general-purpose electronics.
Clamp voltage and breakdown margin
The reverse standoff voltage is 9V, meaning the diode stays off below that level. Breakdown starts at 9.44V minimum, so the rail must stay below that to avoid leakage. The 14.4V clamp at peak current is the ceiling — downstream components must survive that voltage for the pulse duration. With a single unidirectional channel, this part protects one polarity. If the rail can see reverse surges, a bidirectional TVS or a series diode is needed upstream.
