Transient protection with a 1500W margin
The SMCJ64CE3/TR13 is a bidirectional Zener TVS diode from Microchip Technology, rated for 1500W peak pulse power per the 10/1000µs waveform. That 1500W rating means it can clamp a 13.2A surge at 114V without failing — a solid margin for protecting a 64V rail from inductive kickback or lightning-coupled transients. The DO-214AB (SMC) package is surface-mount, and the Tape & Reel delivery suits automated pick-and-place for volume builds.
Clamping voltage and breakdown tolerance
That 42.9V window between breakdown and clamp gives the designer a predictable protection band — the load sees no more than 114V during a surge event. Because it is a single bidirectional channel, one device protects both polarities on a signal pair or AC line, saving board space compared to two unidirectional parts back-to-back.
