Transient suppressor for 45V rails – 1500W peak pulse
Its 1500W peak pulse power rating (10/1000 µs waveform) means it can absorb a 20.6A surge before the clamping voltage hits 72.7V — enough to protect a 48V telecom supply or a 36V battery line from inductive kickback or lightning-coupled spikes.
Breakdown margin and clamping ceiling
The minimum breakdown voltage is 50V, giving a 5V guard band above the 45V reverse standoff — the diode stays off during normal operation and only conducts when the transient exceeds that threshold. The 72.7V clamp at 20.6A is the ceiling the protected circuit must survive; if the downstream DC-DC converter's input FET is rated for 80V, this TVS keeps it inside the safe operating area.
Microchip lists the SMCJ45AE3/TR13 as Active.
Thermal and environmental reach
The DO-214AB body with surface-mount termination suits reflow assembly; the tape-and-reel delivery aligns with high-volume pick-and-place. No power line protection rating — this is a signal-rail or low-power bus protector, not a mains-side suppressor.
