Clamping a 36V rail – what the ratings mean
Its minimum breakdown voltage is 40V, so the device begins conducting at 40V and clamps the surge to a maximum of 64.3V at the rated peak pulse current of 23.3A. That 64.3V ceiling is what the downstream circuitry must survive. The unidirectional construction means it only clamps positive transients relative to ground — use a bidirectional device if the rail sees reverse polarity events.
Package and mounting – DO-214AB SMC
The SMC footprint is larger than the smaller SMA/SMB variants, which helps with thermal dissipation during the pulse. The wide temperature margin means the breakdown voltage shift with temperature stays within the datasheet limits across the full range.
Sourcing and lifecycle – active production
Because this is a standard TVS diode in a common package, multiple distributors carry the part.
