Surge protection for 18V rails
The SMCJ18CAE3/TR13 is a bidirectional Zener TVS diode from Microchip Technology, rated for 1500W peak pulse power per the 10/1000µs waveform. It clamps transients at 29.2V max when conducting 51.4A peak pulse current, protecting downstream circuitry on 18V nominal rails. The DO-214AB (SMC) package is a standard surface-mount footprint for this power class, and the tape-and-reel delivery suits automated assembly lines.
Clamping voltage and breakdown margin
Minimum breakdown voltage is 20V, giving a 2V guard band above the 18V reverse standoff before the diode starts conducting significantly. The 29.2V max clamping voltage means the protected circuit must survive that peak during a surge event. Operating temperature spans -65°C to 150°C junction, covering military and industrial thermal profiles without derating concerns at the extremes.
