Surge protection for 12V rails
Its 12V reverse standoff voltage (typ) means it stays off the rail during normal operation, then fires at 13.3V breakdown (min) to shunt the surge. The clamping voltage is 22V max at the rated 68.2A peak pulse current — that's the ceiling the protected circuit sees. For a 12V bus with 20V-tolerant downstream parts, this clamp margin is comfortable; for a 12V bus feeding a 5V regulator, you'd want a lower-voltage TVS upstream.
Package and polarity for the board
It's a bidirectional device — one channel, no polarity marking needed. The junction temperature range is -65°C to 150°C, so it survives cold-soak and hot underhood environments without derating issues. The 1500W rating is at 25°C; derate linearly above that per the datasheet curve.
