TVS diode for 8.5V rails — 600 W pulse rating in DO-214AA
Its 14.4 V maximum clamping voltage at 41.7 A peak pulse current (10/1000 µs waveform) means a 12 V nominal rail riding at 8.5 V gets clipped before it reaches the downstream IC's abs-max rating. Rated for 600 W peak pulse power, the device handles moderate surges typical of inductive load switching or ESD events in general-purpose industrial and telecom equipment. The DO-214AA (SMB) surface-mount package keeps the footprint small enough for dense PCB layouts while still dissipating the pulse energy through the copper pad area.
Microchip lists the SMBJ8.5AE3/TR13 as Active. No last-time-buy window or successor part has been announced.
The -65°C floor suits avionics and outdoor telecom cabinets in cold climates; the 150°C ceiling gives margin above the 85°C ambient typical of industrial enclosures, especially when the TVS is mounted near hot components like MOSFETs or regulators.
