7.5V rail clamp with 600 W surge rating
The SMBJ7.5AE3/TR13 is a unidirectional Zener TVS diode from Microchip, designed to protect a 7.5 V nominal rail from transient overvoltage events.
Clamp voltage and breakdown margin
Reverse standoff is 7.5 V; the device starts conducting at a minimum breakdown of 8.33 V. That 0.83 V gap means the TVS stays off during normal operation but triggers before the rail exceeds safe limits. Maximum clamping voltage is 12.9 V at the rated peak pulse current of 46.5 A — the protected circuitry sees no more than 12.9 V even under a full 600 W surge.
Active status and package format
Microchip lists the SMBJ7.5AE3/TR13 as Active, so no imminent end-of-life concerns.
The wide range means the TVS maintains its clamping characteristics across temperature extremes — important for outdoor or engine-bay installations where ambient heat shifts the breakdown voltage slightly.
