Zener TVS for 6.5V rail protection
The SMBJ6.5CAE3/TR13 is a bidirectional Zener TVS diode from Microchip Technology, designed to clamp transients on a 6.5V nominal rail. Its 600W peak pulse power rating (10/1000µs waveform) means it can absorb short-duration surges up to 53.6A without failing — the clamping voltage at that current is 11.2V max, which defines the voltage the protected circuit must survive.
Voltage thresholds and clamping margin
The reverse standoff voltage is 6.5V (the rail voltage it protects without conducting), breakdown occurs at 7.22V min, and clamping holds at 11.2V max under full pulse current. That 4.7V window between standoff and clamp gives the downstream silicon a defined overvoltage ceiling — critical for ICs with 8V or 10V absolute maximum ratings.
Active production, tape-and-reel delivery
Supplied in tape and reel (TR suffix), it is ready for volume pick-and-place assembly.
Surface-mount DO-214AA (SMB) — the two-lead package reflows on a standard 0.063-inch PCB land pattern; the cathode band is marked for orientation, though the bidirectional device is polarity-insensitive.
