Zener TVS, 5V rail, 600W pulse — what the ratings mean
The SMBJ5.0E3/TR13: The breakdown voltage starts at 6.4V minimum, clamping at 9.6V maximum at the peak pulse current of 62.5A. This is the part you grab when a 5V supply rail needs a hard clamp before the downstream regulator lets the magic smoke out.
DO-214AA (SMB) — footprint and reflow fit
Housed in the DO-214AA (SMB) package, surface-mount only. The SMB footprint shares the same pad layout as the SMA and SMC siblings, so if your board already has a TVS in a DO-214 package, this drops in without a layout change. Tape & Reel (TR) packaging feeds straight into a pick-and-place.
That covers military and industrial extremes — cold soak at -65°C won't shift the breakdown voltage enough to matter, and the 150°C ceiling keeps the part alive during a sustained fault event. No power line protection built in, so this is strictly for signal or low-voltage DC rails.
