Breakdown voltage and clamping — what the 17.8 V / 26 V numbers mean for your rail
The reverse standoff voltage of 16 V is the maximum DC voltage the TVS can tolerate without conducting appreciably — your 12 V or 15 V rail sits below this threshold. When a transient exceeds the minimum breakdown of 17.8 V, the device avalanches and clamps the voltage to a maximum of 26 V at the rated peak pulse current of 23.1 A. That 26 V clamp ceiling must stay below the absolute maximum rating of your downstream ICs; a 30 V-rated regulator on a 16 V rail has margin, but a 20 V-rated part does not.
The -65°C low end covers cold-soak conditions in outdoor or aerospace environments; the 150°C upper limit allows the TVS to sit near hot components or in high-ambient enclosures without derating the surge capability prematurely.
