Active Zener TVS for 14V Rails
The SMBJ14E3/TR13 is a Zener-type transient voltage suppressor from Microchip Technology, rated for 600W peak pulse power per the 10/1000µs waveform. Its 14V reverse standoff voltage and 25.8V clamping make it a direct fit for protecting 12V or 14V DC power buses, signal lines, and I/O ports in general-purpose equipment.
Parametric Fit: Clamp Voltage and Pulse Current
Minimum breakdown voltage is 15.6V, giving a 1.6V guard band above the 14V standoff — enough to avoid false triggering on normal rail ripple. The 23.3A peak pulse current at the 10/1000µs waveform means this part handles moderate surge events without exceeding the 600W ceiling. Use it on secondary-side DC rails, sensor inputs, or communication lines where fast clamping matters more than high-energy absorption.
