Transient protection for 7.5V rails
The SMAJ7.5AE3/TR13 is a unidirectional Zener TVS diode from Microchip Technology, designed to clamp transients on a 7.5V nominal rail.
The minimum breakdown voltage is 8.33V, which sits about 0.8V above the 7.5V standoff — that gap is the normal leakage region. The clamping voltage at 12.9V max defines the peak voltage the downstream circuitry must survive. For a 5V logic rail, this margin is generous; for a 12V rail, the 12.9V clamp may be tight, so verify the downstream device's absolute maximum rating.
Microchip lists the SMAJ7.5AE3/TR13 as Active. That means no last-time-buy window, no successor search needed.
The DO-214AC (SMA) package is a surface-mount footprint with a small copper pad area — the thermal resistance depends on the PCB copper pour, so for sustained high-energy pulses, a larger pad helps keep the junction temperature rise within limits.
