This part is bidirectional, so it protects both polarities — useful on AC-coupled signal lines or where the rail polarity could reverse during a fault.
Clamping voltage and pulse current — sizing the protection margin
Maximum clamping voltage is 12V at a peak pulse current of 41.7A (10/1000 µs waveform). That means a 7V rail sees the diode clamp at 12V worst-case — check that the downstream circuitry's absolute maximum rating is above 12V. Minimum breakdown voltage is 7.78V, so the diode starts conducting just above the 7V standoff level. The 0.78V margin between standoff and breakdown is typical for TVS diodes — no power line protection feature, so it's not meant for continuous overvoltage clamping.
Package and temperature range — board-level fit
Housed in a DO-214AC (SMA) package, surface-mount, rated for -65°C to 150°C junction temperature. The wide temperature range suits outdoor or industrial enclosures where ambient can swing.
