Zener TVS for 6.5 V Rail Protection
The SMAJ6.5CE3/TR13 is a Zener-type transient voltage suppressor from Microchip Technology, designed to clamp overvoltage events on a 6.5 V nominal rail.
Clamping Voltage and Surge Current Limits
At the peak pulse current of 40.7 A (10/1000 µs), the clamping voltage is 12.3 V maximum — the hard ceiling the protected circuit sees. The minimum breakdown voltage is 7.22 V, so the device begins conducting before the rail exceeds 7.2 V, providing a guard band below the 12.3 V clamp.
The DO-214AC (SMA) footprint is industry-standard, so second-sourcing from other TVS families is possible if needed.
Temperature Grade and Environment Fit
Rated for operation from -65°C to 150°C junction temperature, the SMAJ6.5CE3/TR13 covers extreme environments: outdoor telecom cabinets, automotive underhood (though not AEC-Q101 listed in evidence), and industrial enclosures where ambient heat soaks the PCB. The surface-mount DO-214AC package reflows with standard lead-free profiles. No moisture sensitivity level is cited, but a bake-out before rework is prudent if the reel has been exposed to humid storage.
